๐ The Journey Begins
Every journey starts with a single step, and for me, it was from the familiar streets of London to the sun-drenched coastline of Nice, France. After months of planning, filming, and prepping for this long-awaited road trip through the South of France and Monaco, it was finally time to take off.
But this isnโt just a travel post โ itโs the first chapter of many. Iโll be creating individual blogs for every village and town I visit, embedding videos and pictures Iโve captured, and linking everything to my YouTube channel Hustle & Triumph where you can follow the entire visual journey.
๐งณ Things You Must Carry (Checklist)
Before we dive into the travel nitty-gritty, here are some absolute essentials you must carry for a smooth road trip in France:
- โ Passport & ID
- โ Driving License (UK or International Permit)
- โ Travel Insurance
- โ Credit/Debit Cards (and a bit of cash in Euros)
- โ Power Bank & EU Plug Adapter
- โ Portable WiFi or Local SIM
- โ Sunglasses, Sunscreen & Comfortable Footwear
- โ Travel Apps (Google Maps, Waze, Rome2Rio, Google Translate)
- โ Emergency contacts & car rental agreement (digitally & printed)
- โ Camera or GoPro if youโre planning to film your journey
๐ How to Get to Heathrow Terminal 5 from London (Without a Taxi)
If youโre travelling from Central London to Heathrow Airport using public transport, hereโs the exact route I took:
- Start at Farringdon Station (you can also board from Liverpool Street or Tottenham Court Road)
- Take the Elizabeth Line toward Heathrow
- Disembark at Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3
- Then take the FREE shuttle train to Terminal 5
The signage is clear, and trains run frequently. This is not just budget-friendly but also reliable โ perfect if youโre travelling solo or with light luggage.
If you’re taking a taxi or ride-sharing (Uber/Bolt), itโs more straightforward โ just input “Heathrow Terminal 5 Departures”, and you’re good to go.
๐ซ Flight Experience: British Airways from Heathrow T5 to Nice T1
I flew with British Airways from Terminal 5, Heathrow, which is their main hub. The check-in process was quick, and I highly recommend checking in online 24 hours before departure to select your seat.
The flight duration was just under 2 hours, and the descent over the French Riviera was absolutely stunning. Youโll land at Terminal 1 at Nice Cรดte dโAzur Airport, which is relatively small but efficient.
๐น I’ve created a short vlog on the entire airport-to-airport experience, including terminal transitions, which youโll find on my YouTube channel.

๐ Renting a Car in Nice โ What You Need to Know
I hired my car through OK Mobility, and Iโve got a separate blog + video explaining how to:
- Pick up the car from their station
- What documents to carry
- Things to double-check before driving off
Hereโs a quick breakdown:
โ Pros:
- Affordable daily rates
- Convenient pickup location near Terminal 1
- Digital booking and check-in process was smooth
โ ๏ธ Cons:
- GPS and insurance add-ons can get pricey
- Limited availability if you donโt book early
๐Tip: If you’re booking with them, use a credit card for deposit โ debit cards may cause delays or require additional documentation.
